Martin Maritz

Account Manager - Tulsa, OK.

I grew up in Pretoria, South Africa… the capital of South Africa. My hometown had the most beautiful weather. Beautiful trees in the spring. It was just a city with a bunch of friendly people.

Growing up there, the person who influenced me the most was definitely my mom. She motivated me on a daily basis. She just did everything she could to give me opportunities with school and with all my sports. Just a great cheerleader in the background.

During my time in Pretoria, and throughout my childhood, I really learned to never give up. If you fail, it’s ok. There’s going to be plenty of new opportunities just around the corner and I’ve seen that in my life. I’ve failed many, many times but you get up, you dust yourself off, and you keep going.

I want to visit all 7 continents. I want to get to 100 countries. I don’t know if I will get there and I’ve seen some amazing places, but there are so many I want to visit. One being Alaska.

I’ve also always wanted to play in the World Ice Golf Championship. It’s pretty much in the north pole.

I went to college at the University of Tulsa on a full golf scholarship and I majored in Business Administration with a minor in Sports Management. In college, my mind was on one-track. Between academics and golf, I didn’t have much time for anything else. My entire focus went to the golf team. Practice and tournaments and travel.

When I’m not working, I love to go to sporting events. I’m a big OKC Thunder fan. I hardly miss a game. My wife and I are also big OU Sooner football fans, so we go to at least one home game every season. So, basically, a lot of sport in the family.

When the weather is good, I also love to barbecue. Back in the day when I had more time, I did a lot of drawing and painting. I like to be creative and design.

Actually, as a child, I wanted to be an architect. I wanted to design houses and buildings. I love art, drawing, and painting.

The footprint I would like to leave behind with coworkers is… well, what I want them to see is… consistency. Someone with a level head. Someone with a lot of drive. And someone who loves building relationships whether it’s inside the office or outside.

I just want to learn as much as possible about, not only the internal folks, but our clients, and get as close to them as possible. I want them to see that consistency from me on a daily basis. Work hard and have high goals.

I work for the headquarters of Inceed in Tulsa, OK. What I love about the Tulsa branch is, I think we have a lot of like-minded people in the office. A lot of energy. People are very competitive, so I think that pushes us to be a better job every day. We have a lot of seasoned folks as well, so there’s a lot to learn from them. And I love the people I work with every day. That’s the reason why I love working here at Inceed. It’s the people.

I think the biggest differentiation in the Tulsa branch is, we have a lot of ex-pro athletes. I think that competitive spirit in Tulsa is definitely alive. You can see that as we work on jobs, try to recruit people, and as we try to fill positions. So that competitive spirit helps. I think we’re very resilient and that’s probably what I’m most proud of about my branch. We’ve had ups and downs, but we’ve seen it through so well. That just shows the resilience and toughness that the folks in the Tulsa office have.

One unique fact that I have… I can hit a golf ball 175 yards off my knees. Umm… another fun fact… I was invited to Nelson Mandela’s house and met him at his house back in 2001. That was one of the highlights of my life, meeting him.

And when I was 12 years old, I scored the most points for my rugby team for the whole season. I was the place kicker, so all the extra points and all the penalties came my way.

And I’ve also pretended to be Adam Lavigne in a lip sync competition.

Before Inceed I was a touring, professional golfer for 13 years. I traveled all over the world competing and trying to win a couple championships. That was my only career before Inceed. I wanted to be the best golfer I could be and play in as many major championships as I could. I don’t feel I reached my full potential, but I did get to compete in the British Open.

That was a lifelong dream and goal of mine, so I was able to accomplish that. And I broke into the top 200 in the world ranking… even though I wanted to be in the top 10. But I got to travel to 47 countries playing golf and living out my dream so, in a way, that was still very successful.

I didn’t even know staffing and recruiting agencies existed at that time. But after 13 years, I just knew I needed a change and I always wanted to always break into the corporate world. It was through golf that I got to know the partners at Inceed because they were members of the country club I was at.

That was how I was initially drawn to Inceed. Just the way they handled themselves and the people that they are. I wanted to be part of their group. So, I said, hey, give me a shot, let me show you what I can do. And that’s how it happened.
